Grouping Model Inventory

Groups organize and display data in a view, and multiple properties within a group are nested. Data can currently be grouped by most Type properties, and a select few instance properties (such as Level). Data can not currently be grouped by dimensional data.

Applying a Grouping Order

Note: If you apply a group to a project that does not use those properties, Assemble displays 'groupname' grouping is not compatible with this model version where 'groupname' is the name of the group.

To apply a Group By to your data

1.  Click the  tool.

2.  Select a group name or create a new grouping order.

Creating a Group

When you create a group, that group becomes available for use with other views and other projects as long as the other views and projects have the same properties.

To create a group

1.  Click the  tool.

2.  Select Create.

3.  Complete the name field.

4.  Select the properties to use for grouping. To remove an item from the Group by order list, click x next to the item's name.

5.  Click Create.

Note: Groups present information in a hierarchy. Therefore, the order in which you select the properties is important.

Expanding and Collapsing Groups

Expanding and collapsing groups displays various levels of detail in the Assemble grid. There are multiple ways to expand or collapse the data in grid; use the + or - buttons above the model inventory, the expanding and collapsing carets within the model inventory, or the keyboard shortcuts [<] and [>].

Expanding groups (or rows) will allow greater detail of your data. Collapsing groups (or rows) will provide a higher-level summary of your data.

To expand groups

Option 1.  Use the button directly above the model inventory. Using this method, you will be able to expand down to the next tier in your group hierarchy, and will continue expanding down to the INSTANCE TYPE level.

Option 2. Use the expanding caret, located on each row, to the left of the group. Using this method, you will be able to expand down to the INSTANCE level.

Option 3.  Use the [>] key on your keyboard (the period key). Using this method, you will be able to expand down to the Type level but not the Instance level.

Notes:

  • When grouping by a property that does not exist in at least one visible model, or does not exist in any visible model, grouping row header will be "Not Applicable" for all objects within that model.
  • When grouping by a property that does exist in at least one model, but objects have null values, grouping row header will be "Not Assigned".
