Imported assembly code file has bad assembly codes

After importing a custom assembly code file into the Project Settings, you may find codes that have numerical values that appear incorrect.

Simply formatting the numbers in Excel as something like "Text" leaves those numbers as numbers in the underlying data, and that is what we see in Assemble on import (and then rounding badness, etc). Excel doesn't do a very good job exposing that this is the case.

So how does one get the numbers converted to text that look just like the numbers? Try these steps:

  1. Select the column (Code in this case).
  2. Navigate to the Data tab.
  3. Click "Text to Columns" button.
  4. Click the "Delimited" radio button if not already selected.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Ensure that no delimiters are selected.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select the "Text" radio button under "Column data format".
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Save the file.
  11. Re-upload the assembly code file and sing the praises of the great and powerful Assemble far and wide. Trumpets would be good, too.
